CONDENSED STYLE GUIDE FOR AUTHORS


Notes: Humanities style. Full references for first use, abbreviated form thereafter.
Please refer to The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition.

Numbers: Write out one to ninety-nine. Use figures for measurements and percentages.
Sequences: 3–7, 13–17, 23–7, 103–7.

Punctuation: Use the serial comma. Periods and commas should be placed inside
closing quotation marks; semicolons and colons, outside. Use single quotation
marks, and double quotation marks for quotations within quotations.

Quotations: Use block quotation style for extracts over approximately eight
manuscript lines. Run shorter quotations into the text.

Spelling: British, except for obvious Canadianisms.

Length: Maximum of 10,000 words. This total includes the notes, which should
not e xc eed 100 in number. Authors should submit a word c ount with their
manuscripts.

POLITIQUE DE RÉDACTION (TEXTES EN FRANÇAIS) :

Notes : Présenter les notes à la fin du texte. La première fois, fournir la référence
complète et par la suite fournir une forme abrégée. Séparer les composantes de
la référence (ville, éditeur, date) par des virgules et se servir de parenthèses pour
encadrer l'adresse bibliographique. Se servir du « Ibid. » mais d'aucun autre mot
latin.

Chiffres : Écrire en mot les chiffres entre un et neuf; se servir de nombres à partir
de 10 de même que dans le cas des mesures et des pourcentages; écrire au long
les folios (13–17, 103–107) et les dates (1939-1945); se servir des chiffres romains
pour indiquer les siècles.

Citations : Se servir des « guillemets français » pour de simples citations et des
“ guillemets anglais ” pour celles incluses à l’intérieur d’autres citations. Présenter
les longues citations (de plus de huit lignes) en bloc, sans les guillemets; insérer
les plus courtes dans le texte principal.

Longueur : Maximum de 10 000 mots, y compris les notes (pas plus de 100 notes).
Les auteurs sont priés de soumettre un compte-mots à même le manuscrit.
