Defining
the Field
two special Modern Drama issues now available
Modern Drama was
founded in 1958 and is the most prominent journal in English to focus
on dramatic literature. The terms "modern" and "drama"
are the subject of continuing and fruitful debate, but the journal
has been distinguished by the excellence of its close readings of
both canonical and lesser-known dramatic texts from a range of methodological
perspectives. The journal features refereed articles written from
a variety of geo-political points of view which enhance our understanding,
both formal and historical, of the dramatic literature of the past
two centuries; there is also an extensive book review section.

Elin
Diamond has won this year's distinguished Association
for Theatre in Higher Education Essay prize for outstanding critical
article published in 2001, her essay Modern Drama/Modernity's Drama
published in the second Modern Drama conference issue (44.1). Congratulations
to her as the author and congratulations and thanks, too, to Joanne
Tompkins, who edited the essay, Kim Solga who checked it, and Sylvia
Hunter, who copy edited it. We are very proud of the two special conference
issues, and are grateful to the ATHE committee who had the wisdom
to recognize the quality of Elin's work.
Patricia
Badir has also won the Association for Canadian Theatre Research's
award for Outstanding Article on Canadian Drama and Theatre, for her
article on Marjorie Pickthall's, The Woodcarver's Wife.
Project Muse
The Modern Drama is also a part of Project MUSE. Project MUSE is a
unique collaboration between libraries and publishers providing 100%
full-text, affordable and user-friendly online access to over 300
high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from various
scholarly publishers.
