PReSTO is a uniquely bilingual publishing tool from the University of
Toronto Press that consolidates every aspect of publication within one
coherent system, customized to provide every editor with maximum efficiency
and control. Databases, author notifications and reviewer reminders,
editorial and design guidelines, content scheduling, PDF proofs, finalized
tables of contents-every part of the process can now be governed and
overseen with a click. PReSTO saves time, and therefore money, by rendering
automatic what formerly required a great deal of emailing, typically
with documents attached. Editorial guidelines, updated progress reports,
copy-editing queries: now all this can be obtained by simply logging
into PReSTO with your encrypted password and zeroing in on whatever

The
PReSTO Process:
- An
author logs on to PReSTO and joins the submission queue.
- PReSTO
send out an acknowledgment that the article has been received.
- The
editor can search the PReSTO database by name and area of expertise
to find suitable reviewers, and PReSTO will send out an automatic
e-mail to any number of them.
- Once
reviewers are assigned and accept, they can access the article and
submit their evaluations via PReSTO.
- PReSTO
will monitor the schedule and send out reminders automatically.
- After
the Editor has made a decision, PReSTO will relay reviewer comments
to the author.
- Both
the copy editor and the layout editor can access the article on PReSTO.
If this phase of production is outsourced, proofreading and layout
guidelines are also available on PReSTO.
