Submission guidelines

SIMILE will accept only full-length articles of between 5,000 and 7,500 words. Only articles that have not been published previously in any venue, that have not been submitted elsewhere, and that are not under review for another publication in any medium should be submitted. The editors of SIMILE discourage the recycling of material in slightly altered form from a previously published version; only original papers will be published.

Copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. Contributors will be required to sign a publication agreement prior to publication of accepted articles. Contributors also will be responsible for receiving written permission from copyright owners to duplicate previously published materials.

Format of Submissions
Manuscripts should be submitted concurrently in electronic and print formats.

Electronic submissions should be sent as an attachment file to UNOSIMILE@mail.unomaha.edu. It is preferred that electronic attachments be created with Microsoft WORD 97 or higher.

Print copies of manuscripts should be sent in duplicate to the Co-Editors, SIMILE, School of Communication, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Arts & Sciences Hall, 107-P, Omaha, Nebraska 68182-0112

Manuscript Preparation
All copy, including references, must be double spaced with 1" margins. The 1st page of the manuscript must contain the complete title of the paper as well as the full names of the authors, their affiliations, and complete addresses, including e-mail addresses. No identifying marks are to appear on the succeeding pages. Include an abstract of no more than 200 words on an unnumbered page directly preceding the 1st page of text. Page numbers should appear at the bottom center.

Figures and tables should be submitted as individual, attached files with the electronic submission and should be assembled at the end of the manuscript with the print submissions. Figures and tables should be labeled with an Arabic numeral assigned consecutively according to their sequence in the article and with a caption. Approximate placement of the figures and tables should be indicated in the text.

Photographs and illustrations not generated electronically but which are suitable for scanning may be submitted in paper format only. Dimensions of these materials should not exceed 21.5 x 28 cm. Numerical designation, caption, and the author's name should be written on the back in pencil, as well as an indication of the orientation of the image.

References
Citations and bibliographic references should follow the formats presented in the fifth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Washington, DC: 2001). References for electronic sources should follow the APA guidelines available at http://www.apa.org/journals/webref.html. Citations in the text should be structured according to the author-date method, and materials in the accompanying alphabetical reference list should correspond only to the citations in the text. Contributors are responsible for ensuring accuracy and agreement between the citations in text and the reference list.

Additional instructions for authors whose manuscripts have been accepted

When preparing the final version of your manuscript, you must adhere to APA style instructions and the following house-style conventions. In case of conflict between APA and the house-style listed below, the house-style shall take precedence. Otherwise, your manuscript will be returned to you and will not be processed until these standards are met.

All text must be left-justified (including title, abstract, biographical note, etc.). Single-space the text throughout the manuscript; double-space between paragraphs. Headings of sections within your text should appear in bold; this is the only instance of bolding allowed. Do not use any special formatting; in particular, do not use section breaks; page breaks; tabs; indents; or any other enhancements. Do not use widow/orphan protection. Indicate the start of a new paragraph by a simple hard return. Keep tables and charts to a minimum; ideally, include any data that you currently have in tables or charts in the text proper. Do not use footnotes; any textual material that is currently in your footnotes and that you believe is crucial to your argument should be included in the text proper. Long block quotes should be integrated into your text and cut to an appropriate length of less than 100 words. In your reference list, italicize the names of journals and books.

Any questions about the submission process, as well as general inquiries about SIMILE, should be sent to UNOSIMILE@mail.unomaha.edu.
